Today Digital would be nothing without our incredible team. It’s our creative, diverse, and intuitive people that make our company so innovative.
But who are the people that power the Today Digital dream? Where did they come from, what are their dreams and aspirations, and what have they accomplished?
In our Meet the Team series, we aim to answer all of those questions and more.
Today, we’re introducing Emily Targett, our brilliant Growth Marketing Manager. Emily comes from Gloucestershire in the UK, and has pursued a career in marketing since 2016, before joining the team here at Today Digital in 2024.
Here’s everything you need to know about Emily.
Meet Emily: Quick-Fire Personality Insights
Q: Who’s your favorite type of music?
A: I have an eclectic taste in music that varies from 80s hits to rock, making it very tricky to pinpoint one musician or band!
Q: Do you have any talents/ interests outside of work?
A: I love to go running most days, and have completed a few half-marathons. I even ran the London Marathon in 2022, and I’m looking forward to the Manchester Marathon in 2025.
I also love attending gigs and quirky events – I recently watched the Cheese Rolling in Gloucestershire, which was an experience (though I would never take part myself)!
Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: I love Thai food. Green Thai curry is my go-to comfort food.
Q: Where’s your top vacation destination?
A: There are three places on my bucket list: Japan, and a combined trip to LA and Las Vegas. I’ve always wanted to see the Hollywood sign!
Q: What’s your ideal Friday night like?
A: My ideal Friday night would involve having a meal in a favourite restaurant, wine and then attending a gig .
Q: What’s one unusual thing about you?
A: When I lived in London, I used to visit Bond Street every now and again and convincingly pretended I was looking to buy an outfit just so I could try on Alexander McQueen designs. Lived the dream for a few moments!
Q: If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting a role at Today Digital, what would it be?
A: Be yourself and never stop learning.
Behind the Scenes with Emily Targett
Q: What is your current role at Today Digital? Tell us what your typical workday involves.
A: I’m a “Growth Marketing Manager” at Today Digital, and I started working here pretty recently, in 2024. Being a Growth Marketing Manager means I’m focused on constantly finding ways to generate momentum for Today Digital, and our clients.
What I love most about this role is that no two days are ever the same. There’s no real “business as usual”, every day introduces new opportunities and surprises. Usually, I start my day by reaching out to my team to discuss our priorities. From there, I usually spend my time on a mixture of campaign planning and management tasks, performance monitoring, reporting, and content creation.
For me, the end goal is always finding new ways to get the Today Digital name out there!
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in your field? How did your journey with Today Digital begin?
A: I ended up getting into marketing by accident back in 2016, and I haven’t looked back since! I started off in retail, education, and IT, but for the last four years, I have been immersed in the CX industry.
When the opportunity to join Today Digital as a Growth Marketing Manager came up, I knew it would be a great next step in my career. It gave me an industry to stay “plugged in” to the CX landscape, while exploring the new worlds of Unified Communications and Extended Reality.
Since joining Today Digital, I’ve enjoyed working with the editorial, customer, and marketing teams to develop campaigns that champion UC, CX, and XR businesses and individuals. Our awards and trends & updates series spotlight companies and individuals driving innovation and leadership across all three sectors, and give me an opportunity to expand my horizons.
Q: What goals (professional or personal) have you set for yourself? Does working at Today Digital help you achieve them?
A: Since I got into marketing in 2016, I have completed online qualifications in my spare time. There is one more qualification I’d like to earn, focused on my career. The flexibility Today Digital offers means I can pursue this certification in my own time, while gaining hands-on experience dealing with emerging market challenges, and finding new opportunities for business growth.
A personal goal I set early in my career was to find more time to do the things I love, whether it’s running, attending gigs, or just trying something new. Thanks to Today Digital’s four-day week, this goal is in motion. I have more time to balance hobbies and interests with my career, and I’ve found that this has actually boosted my creativity.
Q: How would you describe the company culture at Today Digital? What do you like or dislike about it?
A: Today Digital is a truly collaborative workplace, despite being a fully remote company. Honestly, I was a little sceptical about how everything would work at first. Previously, I’d only ever worked either in fully office-based or hybrid environments. But I’ve been amazed at the sense of community that we still have as a team, even when we’re all working remotely.
Everyone is welcoming, helpful, and cooperative. Plus, we get the amazing opportunity to connect through in-person social events twice a year. I was thrilled to attend the first social event in 2024, in Amsterdam, and it was so great to meet everyone face-to-face. I was particularly impressed that the group followed me to a rock bar one evening – they’re not afraid to try something new!
Q: What’s the most memorable project or moment you’ve experienced with Today Digital so far?
It has to be the UC Awards 2024. This was the first awards event I managed soon after joining the team. I dove in at the deep end, and get a really good idea of what’s involved in our Awards process, from project management, to tracking application submissions, and scoring responses.
I had a great opportunity to speak to some of our judges too – all of which are real trailblazers in their field. Plus, I love championing innovation. My father’s aviation startup business (Electroflight) teamed up with Rolls-Royce to build an all-electric aircraft that broke two world speed records in 2022. Since then I’ve been captivated by people who think outside of the box. It’s not every day you see your parent’s work displayed in the London Science Museum.
Being a part of an awards show that recognizes real pioneers in Unified Communications was a great feeling. It makes me believe I’m truly involved in helping to inspire and shape the future.
