Meet Susie: Quick-Fire Personality Insights
Q: What’s your favorite movie or TV show?
A: I’m not sure I can pick a top movie, but Stath Lets Flats is definitely my favorite TV show.
Q: What kind of hobbies do you have outside of work?
A: I have two kids – so there’s not a lot of time for hobbies. Most of the time I have outside of work is spent with them – which is great! My son regularly thrashes me at Trivial Pursuit, and – for intellectual balance – we love playing Mario Kart too.
Q: Do you have any pets? Tell us about them!
A: We have a family kitten called Pepper that was actually my daughter’s birthday present. He might be her cat – but it’s usually me that’s nose-deep in the litter tray.
Q: Tell us something unusual about yourself
A: Back in the day, I was an Australian State synchronized swimming champion.
Another thing – my brothers and I once invented a sport called Bicycle Ballet. Well – I invented it, and forced them to take part.
Behind the Scenes with Susie Harrison
Q: Tell us about your role, what do you do at Today Digital?
A: I’m the Senior Content Editor for Today Digital, and I work on refining the content across all of our publications. My role, in a nutshell, is to deliver incredible commercial content for our clients. It’s a pretty broad role that involves a lot of different day-to-day processes.
I spend a lot of time managing writers, producing content myself, following up with clients, and making sure every company gets the best experience when they work with us. I’m relatively new to the company – I’ve been here about seven months – but it’s been a great experience so far.
Q: How do you feel about the company culture at Today Digital?
A: If I had to pick a single word to describe the company culture here, it’s probably “dynamic”. The company is fast-moving and always evolving. This isn’t a place where you can simply sit back, rest on your laurels and follow the status quo – you need to keep moving forward.
Obviously, there are challenges to that kind of work, but I find the culture has really helped to push me outside of my comfort zone, and drive me to accomplish new things.
Q: What kind of projects do you really enjoy working on?
A: I really love working with our clients on projects related to cutting-edge solutions, like artificial intelligence, or complex topics like the impact of technology on society. Working on content linked to these areas is really my sweet spot, and something that keeps me highly motivated.
AI, I think, is one of the most interesting topics in the technology world right now. I’m interested to see what happens when we get to the point where AI can make decisions for itself. I think the implications of that will be fascinating for everyone.
Q: How have you grown since you began working with us?
A: I have a tendency to stick in my comfort zone once I find it – which isn’t really an option at Today Digital. No two days (or hours) are the same and the company is fast evolving – so it’s a question of pushing yourself to keep up. That means I’m continually working outside of my comfort zone – which is sometimes challenging on a personal level, but is helping me develop professionally.
Q: What advice would you give someone starting at Today Digital?
A: Be curious. Ask lots of questions, and don’t be afraid to keep asking. The people here are always happy to answer you, support you, and even seek out the answers with you if they don’t have them. Plus, asking those questions shows you’re eager to learn, and you’re actually engaging with the work.
the work. I’d also say don’t be afraid to question the status quo – we’re happy to get new perspectives and a fresh eye on things so they can be improved. Generally, be prepared to move quickly, work hard and be challenged.
